Shahjalal Mosque, Manchester opened its doors to the local community on 24th Ramadan, 9th June 2018 to Share Ramadan with the Community.
The aim of the initiative was to welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds interested in connecting with the community and learning about other cultures.
The community which included local neighbours, church groups, Police forces, councillors and MPs were presented with guided tours around the mosque, an exhibition of Islamic teachings and heritage, given the opportunity to listen to the recitation of the Quran, an understanding of some aspects of Islam followed by questions and answers. It ended with the breaking of the fast which was served with some delicious traditional food and some goody bags to take home.
The event proved to be a great success and we’ve had wonderful feedback. Given the nature and magnitude of this event it required the full capacity of the local volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure of its success.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in helping with the event. It’s difficult and unfair to name everyone due to the vast of number of people involved.
Inspired by our Imam and a few handful of local brothers who sacrificed their time in meetings and organising the event, the catering team for cooking a variety of meals for hundreds of hungry guests, to the young and regular volunteers who enlightened us with their enthusiasm and assistance in all aspects of the operation of the event.
More importantly a huge thank to our guests who took the time out to attend and observe the programme that was set out for them. We hope you enjoyed it and we hope to see you again soon.
